Debut Album: Sum of the People – Sum of the Time
Released in February 2024, their debut album Sum of the People – Sum of the Time showcases TicNoToc’s adventurous instrumentation. Celtic-tinged mandolin and fiddle adorn the track “Peterloo,” gritty guitars drive “Aaaargh,” and a brass section with piccolo snare punctuates “Fake News.” Throughout, keyboards and inventive percussion weave additional layers, rewarding repeated listens with fresh discoveries.
Themes and Lyrics
Hodges’ wordsmithing tackles weighty topics with both intelligence and empathy. Songs explore the 1819 Peterloo Massacre, shine a light on contemporary mental-health struggles, and deliver incisive social commentary. The result is a lyrical journey that balances historical awareness with urgent calls to action.—Throughout the album, guest vocalist Danielle Hodgkins (Mark’s daughter) adds dreamy backing vocals on “Foot Off My Head,” underscoring the personal depth of their storytelling.
